What is Cooking???

How I combat my boredom? This is not a mystery anymore :) The mornings go so busy busy, that I feel Ratheesh has more time than me :P This is the time for myself and my connection with the outer world (Read: Internet) and also the Inner World (Read: Sadhna). Once both the above is done, I start cooking. I never liked cooking. I was a 'Tea' and "Maggi' Girl. That experience stopped me from cooking, at home. I still remember in my 5th Std, when Amma taught me to prepare tea and prepared it for my Hero,'Acha'. He loved it... and since then it was my responsibility to do it everyday. After few days, I felt I can take up better responsibilities :P and chucked this job off by experimenting easier ways to prepare something as simple as 'TEA'. I did :) and I loved. But we still liked Amma's Tea :) better.

I hated cooking. My dad has always said, never use such strong words. (Viji: wink...wink) Instead of the term hate, we can term it as 'I don't like'. Well said! But I hated cooking. Amma 1 was always there at home, and when she was not available, Acha entered the portals of kitchen and I loved it. After marriage, Amma 2 was always there preparing yummy stuffs for us kids :) so I never got the chance to do anything or may I say, I did not want to. I only prepared 'Biriyani'. That was a Holy Ritual for me, which Shilpa akka had taught me and I am her Best Student too.

I had prepared my would-be, very well, about my cooking. Viji was the one who used to bear direct consequences of MY cooking. If she likes, then I do not even care about Tarla Dalal lady or The Sanjeev Kapoor's opinions. I used to serve her in time, and give her a tip, mostly like, 'The potatoes could have been cooked more.' She would nod, like a stiff examiner and give a big Sigh..!!!

I would look at her with this pleading eyes and she would say, Its okey :) That was like getting selected for a  MD merit seat, without even having to apply :):):) Bingo...!!!! She would repeat this stuff directly to her Jiju and both would have a laugh.

Ratheesh was not that expectations kind of guy, so he thought I was reaaallly bad. How rude !!!! So when I prepared Rasam on the day I arrived he was, excited and really loved it. Then I too began enjoying my experiments and love each and every moment of it. From a 'chore', it has become a 'hobby' for me, and people have started relishing it too.

Now that is a Feather in my Cap :) and as I end it, I say thanks to Amma 1, Amma 2, Shilpa Akka, Achan, Ratheesh, Viji and of course all the food sites in the Google.. I bow down in front of you...

From Bawa's Blog...

Guruji has indicated that the next few months, upto around the middle of October are not so good and He has advised that we keep three things in mind
1. No adventure trips at all. No trekking, rafting, mountain climbing, etc
2. Cut down on partying and night outs
3. Drive slowly, carefully and don’t leave your house till you have finished your Sadhana
For these few weeks, please be more sattwic, eat at home more, not outside as much as possible…
What i see in this, is it’s an opportunity for all of us to go more inwards. Clean up our life and start up some really good habits.Do all your Sadhana, Surya Namaskars, Padma Sadhana, Sudarshan Kriya, Sahaj. Also do chanting, Om Namah Shivaya and the Guru Pooja if you know it.

Start to read the Bhagavad Geeta and the Yoga Vasishtha … You know you have been wanting to do it, instead of that trek, sit home and read these books. Doesn’t matter if you don’t understand or it is too deep for you, just reading will open something up in you… Read these books just after meditation.
Go Inwards.
Be safe…
Jai Gurudeva!

Long time, No see.

Have been lagging behind and not kept my promise of updating the blog rather regularly. A mast batch of YES!+ graduated in Manipal and Mangalore. I met Bawa and Dinesh Da recently in Goa. Cool na. Roller coaster ride for sure. This time Tanushri, a dynamic teacher from Pune, Bangalore and Singapore came down. :) No no, there were no three teachers. She is from all these places.
Had a talk today in an esteemed college of Mangalore. I started a new trend in talks. Giving out health menu card.  Around 90% of the student crowd have back-related problems, head-heaviness, and acidity, stomach related problems, cold and cough attacks. Even I used to have this terrible back-pains and acidity. Thank you AOL and Sudarshan Kriya, it just remains a memory now. Yeah! Future of India you see. At 9:00 AM in morning they are yawning and burnt out. Stressed out at such a young age, as though the entire universe is on their shoulders. Confused! Stressed! Have become the watch words of their life. Teachers are there to take care of the knowledge banks, busy completing portions, setting up papers and correcting them. Phew... at the end they puke out the answers and become hollow and empty in non-spiritual terms for a second.
By the by, Pain is inevitable! But suffering is optional!
Heal the world. Have taken a step. It is your turn.

Right side or Left???

Our left side is cooling and right side produces more energy in the body. Means? If you are lying down to your left side, what has happened? Your stomach is like this, right? So, in sleep, you get good sleep because the food will all stay there. If you turn to the right side, the food comes up to the esophagus. So it is best to sleep on left side down. When you sleep left side, your right nostril functions, then the metabolic rate in your body is 50% more. When the right nostril functions, the metabolism in the body is 50% more than the normal. Supposing the metabolic is, if it is 100 unit, it will be 150 unit when the right is functioning. So, reverse will happen when you sleep on this side, right side. What will happen? The left nostril will function. At that time, the metabolism in your body is 50% less. When it is 50% less, there is more calmness, there is more serenity. More completion is there. So when you get up, stress release, all activities are all over, you feel very complete and settled and serene. That's why after meditation, after Kriya, we lie down on our right side so that when we get up, our left is functioning. It soothes the whole system. Left side soothes, right side invigorates the system. So, always we do that.

Swine Flu

I agree with you that swine flu awareness is needed, but there is no need to be panicky and join the publicity propaganda carried out by media and others which acts as a vehicle to spread misconception than to spread scientific information.

These are few facts about swine flu when discussed with the leading epidemiologists.

  1. Swine flu, that is H1N1 flu is not new, first detected in 1987
  2. Infective stage of flue is 5 days, 1 day before and 4 days after onset of symptoms.
  3. The best way to prevent it spreading is asking patient having symptoms of flu like fever cough and running nose to take rest at home for 4 days so he does not transmit it.
  4. Masks are of limited value if any, in this disease, it can spread through droplets on your skin, through contact etc, and I have seen that the masks in Pune are worn as fashion statement, while walking on road today morning I saw people wearing masks coming out for a morning walk with their dogs!, many wearing masks around their necks, and so on, infact these masks shall act as the vehicles to carry the virus, instead, avoiding crowded places or cinema halls or malls where airconditioners are on, is advisable, because you get recirculated air, where the virus density multiplies.
  5. Death after H1N1 flu is not common, infact infections like measles is taking toll of thousands more every year, and we are oblivious of the facts. Swine flu is being blown out of proportion by media trying to create hysteria among lay people.
  6. Fever accompanied by respiratory distress, should be immediately notified which is likely to be a complication of H1N1 flu.
  7. The mortality is less than .01 percent of those affected, that means may be one in 10,000 affected is likely to suffer the life loss.
  8. If you remember, 2 years ago SARS was blown out of proportion, what happened? Humans develop immunity to the virus, the same is going to happen, we develop immunity in due course of time, the virus is in the air, you can not stop it, our body is already developing the immunity so nothing to panic. We need to take care of children and elderly who have less immunity and do not let them go to crowded places that is all .

WE MUST START THIS CAMPAIGN OF NOT TO BE AFRAID OF THIS FLU AND LET YOUR DAILY WORK CONTINUE AS NORMAL, NO MASKS FOR ORDINARY CITIZENS, HEALTH CARE WORKERS OR SPECIFIC EXPOSED TO LOT OF CROWDED ENVIRONMENTS MAY BE BENEFITTED, NOT PROVEN.

I am amazed to hear that people are selling masks of RS 20 each which are available for less than rupee 1 in the market. See who is getting benefitted?

Please spread the scientific info, do not join the band wagon and stick to science, that should be the order of the day.

PS: In case you want to spread the awareness and not add to the hype, spread this info. Best way to fight this disease is to improve your immune system.
You improve your immune system by doing these...

Inhale Clove (Lavanga) oil (incase you have) for 1 second or better chew 1 clove a day. 2 also will do, one after breakfst and another after dinner :)
  • Eat raw Garlic, Onion, Ginger - a crumb (1 to 4gm) will do, not an entire onion/garlic/ginger :)
  • Drink hot milk with 2gms of Turmeric - If you can manage to :)
  • Consume Plenty Of Vit C Fruits. I am sure everyone can do this :)
